A Ratty Sleepover

I hope I don't upset anyone with this photo! People can be so horrified by the thought of ratties. This is Hunka Munka. She is having two nights with us to see if she would like to live here. Her mummy and daddy are English and are returning to England later this year, and are moving to Queenstown in the meantime. Their new landlady says no rats. I think she is much prettier than I am, but it isn't a good photo of either of us. She has fawn patches on her body and her eyes are like wee black currants. People say rats tails are disgusting, but Hunka Munka's tail is lovely and smooth with pink skin and soft white hair. Her wee hands are just delightful. I think I might be Beatrix Potter reincarnated! Mr B totally approves of her, which I am thrilled about. He even cuddled her while I hung up the washing. So I think Hunka Munka will become a permanent member of the family, since she is so settled with us. Her Mummy, Wendy, wanted to take her back to England, but the quarantine for rodents is six months. Since rats don't have long lives, and quarantine would be no fun for Hunka Munka, she had to find her a loving new home. Lucky me! I love her already! XXX

aww Ratty is soo cute and yep I was one of them people who uied to be horrified at the thought of someone keeping any kind of rodent for a pet until my daughter(then 7yrs now 19yrs) saved up her pocket money and put up a pretty good argument one day at a market..hence she got a rat-when that darn thing used to climb into my handbag ...it went on many unplanned trips as I never knew it was in my bag..up my shirt sleeve etc etc..It was a very sad day when poor MR Ben(da rat) tried to fly of the fridge and broke his back..Hey thanks for the trip down memory lane was a long time since I have thought about MR Ben...
cheers Vickie

Well, she is cute FROM a distance. I always think they are cute in their cages or out of doors but I would never bring one home. Probably because of living in the country and having too many mice and rats finding their way in the house over the years. Shudder!

I am not good with rodents but I understand they make very loving pets. What does pussy make of her?

She is a lovely colour and seems quite seems quite small for a rat, more mouse like. Although my last experience with one was when I leased a horse in Wellintgton. I went into her tack room to get some hay out and there was a cat in there - except it wasn't a cat, it was a ginourmous rat. I got a bit of a fright. Dad used to bring the lab rats home from school during the holidays, and I didn't mind them.

You are going to have a real menagerie soon - especially when you add the hundreds of new worms from the future worm farm.

yep! I LOVE her! Wonder what the OOmpaloompah would think of her? Mr PB told me all about her today at school - he sounded quite the proud new father! See you Saturday xxxx Mrs CT
