W.I.P

Well, I'm so thrilled to have some new visitors to my blog! So here is a wee update to keep things interesting.
This week has been busy at school as usual. You will be pleased (as I am) to hear that our sexuality professional development is over. Today was utterly mortifying. I have to admit that talking to most people about body parts and functions relating to the "s" word fills me with horror. I must be an old fashioned girl. Guess who was in my group again? Yes, our Principal. I felt quite panicky and traumatised afterwards! I'm supposed to be able to educate the children of our nation about this. Glad my students don't talk, 'cause I'm not likely to be getting any tricky questions from them.

I've been a busy crafter this week.
I got this pretty fabric but it didn't really go with anything else I had for patchwork. I decided to make a prototype of a lavender heart with a wee embroidered rose. Again I'm having trouble with the shape. Not so much with the template shape, but with the bit I hand sewed to close it. You can see the edge goes in there. Plus the middle top part is a bit puckery, but improved with stuffing. I forgot to put the hanging ribbon on in my haste to see what it would look like.
Here's my coffee table. That's two quilts plus a pile of extra stuff. I'm having a bit of trouble with my rotary cutter. It leaves uncut bits, so I've got to be really careful to get the pressure even.
Miss Dog is very pleased to have a treat. I love the way her paw is bracing her chewy so she can really sink her teeth into it. She is so looking forward to her holiday with Daisy Dog. Only a few days to go, little dog!
And a wee look around the garden:
Figs are ripening. The birds are looking forward to these!
I'm not too fond of the figs off our tree (which is enormous, by the way). They are rather bland in taste. They get quite fat and are light browny green with cream middles. I think the ones that are pink inside and dark brown outside are tastier. Well, I hope so, since they are so popular in Italy.
The purple grapes are getting overripe now. Maybe I should squish them for their juice. Or I could make wine, but since I don't like the stuff, it would be a waste of time. I'd better hurry and decide before they go furry. Any ideas?
These little toadstools aren't as pretty as the red spotty ones, but I think they are rather sweet all popping out of the grass.
House is on tonight! Awesome. Plus it is on at 8.30pm so I can go to bed at 9.30pm. I'm tired. Bye for now. I hope you are all having a lovely week XXX

Hi Poppy, sorry I haven't been around for a couple of days, been too busy running as you will see from my blog.

I like your heart, you did a great job and the little rose is precious.

Wow, 2 quilts you are really ambitious. I like the material that you have choosen.

Beautiful dog, is he yours? After thinking the German Shepherd was yours, I'm not sure when I see your post but he sure is a handsome dog...all black and shiny.

The grapes look lucious...are they Concord grapes. If so, they would make terrific grape jam. I love concord grape jam. Why don't you try it?

I know what you mean about having to teach sex education. I personnally believe that ought to be taught in the home by Mom and Dad but that's just my opinion. And I think children should be taught abstinance until they marry! Talk about being old fashioned.

That's what is wrong with our society...it is pushing children to be and act like adults when they are still children. What's wrong with the old fashion idea of teaching children reading, writing, arithmatic, history and geography in school?...instead of taking prayer and the ten commandments out of the schools?

Sorry...guess I'm just getting carried away!

Thank you all for your lovely comments. I am proud of my embroidery because it is something not many people can do. Dianne, the dear doggy in my photo is my baby. She is 5 years old now, and silly as can be, but very dear. We have been discussing teenagers lately, and the way society has become much more permissive. This can put them in the worst kind of danger, as one 15 year old girl unfortunately discovered 12 days ago here in Christchurch. I should think the family is grieving terribly, but must also take some blame for what happened through a lack of supervision. XXX

Those grapes look sensational -- so fat and ripe.

I like your heart too.
